BSBI Paris students sharpen leadership skills in Amsterdam

BSBI Paris students recently completed a five-day leadership programme at IC University of Applied Science – Amsterdam, gaining valuable tools and experiences to enhance their leadership potential. Held from June 17th to 21st, the activity combined classroom sessions with practical activities, offering a well-rounded learning experience.

The training went beyond traditional lectures. Students participated in a canal cleanup with Plastic Whale, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in tackling environmental issues. A boxing clinic with Rich Hooff focused on honing listening skills, a critical element of effective leadership.

Students also gained insights from successful businesses. A visit to A Beautiful Mess restaurant showcased how empathy is key to building strong teams, while a visit to Heineken highlighted the importance of a clear mission statement, a guiding principle for aspiring leaders.

“What an amazing week it was,” shared Jaya Chandra Reddy Pala, a student in the MA Tourism, Hospitality, Event Management programme. “The activities they made us do in the classroom, like the Lifeline graph, funeral speech, and even boxing – honestly, I never thought I could learn about leadership through boxing! We had a memorable fun-filled time in Amsterdam. Everything we learned in the Amsterdam programme made me a better version of myself and hopefully a better leader in my future endeavors.”

Vibin Balachandran, a Global MBA student, echoed these sentiments. ‘The five-day training provided a space for self-discovery and helped us reshape our thinking and refocus on our future mission and vision,’ he said. ‘The activities were instrumental in fostering our understanding of team building and leadership qualities. The interactive sessions were particularly motivating, pushing us to strive forward. We learned the crucial distinction between how a leader behaves and what a manager’s role entails.”

The programme encouraged self-reflection through interactive sessions at the Rijksmuseum, where students used historical artifacts to discover their own leadership styles. All participants received a certificate of achievement for completing the “Personal Leadership” mastercourse. They also received a copy of Stephen R. Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” to further develop their leadership skills.

BSBI provides students with a unique opportunity to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experiences, fostering personal and professional growth in a vibrant and culturally enriching environment.
